I have a 1997 I30. I took it to get it inspected today (Dallas, TX). The guy told me he was not getting a reading from the OBDII connector. I am not having any other problems with my car (it currently has just over 80K miles). What is the OBDII connector and (I'm not ruling this out) did he know what he was talking about?

i believe it's the term for the connection between the vehicles ECU and the tech's consultant tool. sounds like he knows what he's talking about...but why the connection doesn't work is beyond me.

All Infiniti vehicles after 1996 have the OBDII connections which for the I-30 body style is located on the left side of the lower dash and is WHITE in color. If you remove the fuse panel cover you will see a rectangular shaped grey connector which is used for the dealership to retrieve trouble codes and diagnostic information using the Consult II. The White connector on those year models is for a Generic type scan tool to be used.We have noticed you are very limited to the amount of in-fo that you can receive using the Generic (white ) connector versus the grey connector. But you should be able to retrieve trouble codes from either source. The 2000 year models is when things really got changed around, which on those year models you can change the ECM and also the TCM programming among other things...If no information could be retrieved, you may want to try another scan tool or take it to a dealer and see if the data can be retrieved using the Consult II (grey connector).
