I have a 97 altima. Stopped running, pulled cover and the upper chain was broke and the lower chains left guid was broke and pushed up against chain. The upper piece that fit in tensioner was gone.
First question is ...is this an interference motor?
I have all new parts to replace, but having some difficulty with cam line up. Been reading posts so think I have it figured out, but my cam sprockets are single row, and have two slash marks instead of a dot. So believe its a 98 style? Correct.?
So I too all chains off, put crank at tdc, easy to know since oil pan and 80% of motor comes apart to do this job!!!
Move cams around to try and line up stuff, I know i felt some resistance, but before I set these things and try it all.....
Is it worth it? WOuld I have bent valves with upper chain breaking? According to most, the lower chain cant jump due to position between guides, sprockets, etc. So my upper chain and cams may have jumped though.
any way to see if valves are bent without pulling the head off?
and does anyone have a good clear picture of the cam sprockets and lower sprockets lined up , mostly the cam sprockets, with the single row style with the two slask timing marks?
any help is appreciated. Done belts on Camrys, and old chevy chains, this one is weird cause most manuals are showing single dots on the alignment marks.
