1997 240SX Auto transmission Problem

Hello,

I have a 97 240SX, whenever the car goes it to second gear it slams into gear, but when it goes into 3rd and 4th is shifts normal,

I would appreciate any help you can lend me

my old transmission used to do that wiht 120,000mi. it started to slip oncei put it back in but i think it was from sitting out in rain for months. i have an auto transmission with 32,000mi in my car right now that im selling. has shifted great for me for the past 1000mi none of that slamming but now im swappin to 5spd. if your interested email [email protected]

If your auto transmission is only shifting hard into one gear then the only real way to fix it is to tear it down.

You can however sometimes use a transmission fluid addative and it will help. I have had decent results with trans-x. Usually I will drain enough fluid out, then add the trans-x and drive it for about a thousand miles. Then drain the transmission and refill. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

You can also try changing your ATF. I changed mine out, and it shifted much more smoothly. I used Castrol ATF in the transmission, also swapped out the ATF strainer. Then the diff fluid actually did alot for me as well in terms of shifting smoothness. I do still get the slam feel initially, but when the ATF and gear oil start to warm up, it's very smooth. Give the fluid change a shot before a tear down of an AT as those get real expensive real fast.

or buy mine off me if that doesnt work. but yea the strainer or transmission filter is a good idea to change. i changed mine and the difference when lookin at them is unbeilveable.

Are your reverse lights not working either? I know on my 89 KA Auto car I'm going through a similar problem.. it actually tore up one transmission before I got the car.

I think I've traced it down to the transmission computer acting up/not working. It controls transmission pressure through the line solenoid and this can cause the trans to shift rough..

Also are you noticing that the trans won't maintain RPM's when your going down the road? I.E. in 3 rd gear if you take your foot off the gas the revs fall back to 1K RPM or so? Thats the problem I was having too.

I've got another transmission control unit on the way should be here tommorow. We're hoping that cures it.. if not I found something online that said something about a throttle control valve or something that was related to transmission shifting (could be TPS too)..
