this looks like it will work... really similar. IM changing out every 20yr old valve with new. im tired of this car not idling prop till it warms up.

300zx tt/ sr20de look similar...would be nice if anyone could confirm which would be the best match for our motor. some of these are for 4 dr vehicles etc. link down below in 2nd post with 100 diff nissan air valves

Japan (OEM) Auxiliary Air Valve; IACV Air Regulator; for models w/ M/T For models with production year from 10/1997 to 12/1999. For models with manual transmission.

As a replacement for this.. Air Regulator

It connects to the IAA unit via a hose...

It is a direct replacement. I thought I posted that up somewhere? I never had a part number for it, just that it would work.

I tried it on my car, but the one I found was off an automatic and made the car idle at like 2700rpm, which is a bit high, so I took it back off.

ok, ill make sure i order one for m/t...so technically any of them will work as long as they have the in & out nipple and are for M/T? the plug in looks the same for all of them.

Im have a similar version of this air regulator i yoinked off a early nineties Sentra. I dont remember the year or trim but i believe it had a 1.6L or 1.8L GA ( looked like mini KA) or what ever code it may be!

If i remeber right i think it was automatic. I also had to yoink the connector and pigtail to resolder it onto my existing harness. I actually like that style connector anyway, seems more waterproof/secure.

Would one of these being bad cause a continuously high idle?

Like my idle is ALWAYS around 1600. Would this fix that? I set the idle at ~800 rpm when I did the timing and junk as per FSM instruction. But it idles high like all the time....

Yes it would. When they fail, they often fail fully open or fully closed. Mine failed like yours did and constantly idled high.

All right, now that I know what it is I can fix it.

1600 rpm at every traffic light was (is) starting to get pretty annoying.

I'll bet it makes pulling away from a stop really easy though! No need to give it gas, just let out the clutch!

A CA18ET air regulator is a direct replacement. They look identical to the 18DET. I'll try to compare one side by side but from what I can tell, they look exact, if not the same. It's like 100 bucks from the dealer too. Just don't get one from a junkyard cuz those seem to go out pretty often on 20Es and 18ETs also.

Pretty much, it's almost like an automatic!

I fixed it though. Bought a subwoofer. Now I can't hear it idle at all

I think though, that I still need that silly little valve. ARGH NISSAN I HATE YOU

That is all.

i wonder if this could be the culprit to my high idle? the problem is though, when i first crank the car it idles at about 750-900 then after a few minutes it shoots up to 1400-1600 and stays there. this has been kinda stumping me for awhile now

That's what my car was doing! I should have explained that better, lol.

Well I seem to have fixed it, but it wasn't this aux air valve thing. I know because I went to pick n pull and grabbed one off a 92 Nissan NX. I couldn't find a B13 SE-R in pick n pull (obviously, haha) so I cross-referenced the part no. for the valve and found some other cars it came on. So anyway, I got an aux valve off a m/t Nissan NX. Swapped it in, had to solder the new plug on (Nissan must have changed what kind of plugs they use over the years?), cranked it up, and same story.

SO, I thought that maybe my NX valve was bad too. But I was skeptical; the valve looked pristine, as did the engine I pulled it off of. So I started to think what else it could be. I was all set to tear into the main idle air control unit, until I flipped through the service manual, and the throttle position sensor caught my eye. Because it had "idle" in the description.

SO, I have like 4 TPSs for some reason. 1 from o.g. 240SX KA24E. 1 came with Silvia CA18 swap. 1 from Stanza KA24E (I'm running the throttle body from one, so I had it around). And 1 from a guy on the forum, who told me it was for a CA18. The kicker is, all of them BUT the one I bought off the forum had the same part number. Using my leet skills I deduced I should try the one with the non-matching part number. And lo and behold, IT IDLES RIGHT NOW!!!! YES!!!! (Jumps to 1600 or so on start, then goes to ~800 once at operating temp)

But now I don't really know what's going on. The TPS I had on there came with my swap, but has the same part number as the KA24E TPSs. The one on there now that works is a different part number than my other 3.

Since I used the one that came with my CA18, it should have worked, regardless of part number. Unless my homie in Japan did a switch-around on me. Or maybe the one on there now is just an outdated part number or something? Nissan likes to screw with our minds.

In any case, weirdo part numbers or no, check your throttle position sensor! (Or just replace it till it works, like me, god FORBID I use a multimeter lol)

I was just going to have you check the idle switch in the TPS to see if it had failed or if the TPS was out of adjustment.

sorry to bring up an old thread but....i have the exact same problem but with one difference....when i first start my car in the morning it idles 750-900 and then a minute or 2 later it jumps to 1400-1600. When this happens ill ignore it and drive it around with the high idle till the motor is warm. then ill shut off the car, wait a couple minutes and then ill start my car again. When the car is started the idle is back to normal and won't idle high again.. The high idle only happens when i start the car in the morning or when i haven't used the car in a couple hours( like 8 hours) thats when im at work. Would this be caused by a bad AAV or just like the guy above, something with the TPS?

sounds like a bad AAV to me. It's the most common valve to fail.
