About a week ago i noticed that my odometer stopped rolling. I called around to my mechanic and to the dealerships to ask about it. Everyone i talked to was very surprised and said that that they'd never heard of a problem like this. So i took it in yesterday and they said that it the (Speedo Head Sensor) had a short in it and needed to be replaced. About $700 parts and labor. Can anyone tell me how this happened? and what if any alternatives there are to paying full price for the dealership replaement. I've been keeping track of my miles manually using the electronic trip odometer. It is now stopped at 82,310. ???? Any advice would be appreciated.

the odomotor is motor driven and guess what? that crappy little motor goes out quite frequently! i've went through 3 speedos/odos. your best bet is to get one from the junk yard (compelete instrument cluster and swap out the speedo/odo).

if you care about keeping your current mileage keith b knows how to set the new one.

i'm suprised at the cost, i bought a brand new speedo/odo unit for a 95 q45 and it was only $230 + $50 for calibration.

the quoted price seems extremely high. Verify parts cost from Joe. Should not be more than 2 hrs labor MAX MAXMAX

I can adjust the indicated mileage if desired email me off line.
