My Q45 has about 100K miles on it. The speedometer started to work intermitenly mostly not working. This set a Check Engine Light on and thre a code saying speed sensor bad. The speed sensor was replaced but the speedometer still doesn't always work. It works more often but it still throws the code for speed sensor. The RPM gauge still works if this helps with the clues.

I talked with a shade tree mechanic about it and he says he remembered something about this but can't remember exactly what it is. It could be instrument cluster but don't want to replace that unless it is thought to be the main culprit.

Anybody have an idea what it cold be?

Thanks all

The speed sensor feed an integrated circuit that produces zero to 5 volts dc. This is then duplicated 6 ways and isolated feeds the speedometer [voltmeter], a translation circuit for odometer, the power steering ecu, the ecu, the tcu, the cruise control.

The speedometer assembly should be replaced.

Thanks Q45tech. Where is the speedometer assembly? Behind the instrument cluster?
