Is there a visual difference between the 96 (non VCT) engine and the 94/95 engine? And, will a 96 plug and play into a 94 Q45?

My 94 had an engine replacement in the early 2000's, I'm just trying to determine which engine I have.

Thanks.

The actuators for the variable cam timing phasers are the zinc plated cylinders with the electrical connectors pointing off at 45 degree angles on the very front of the intake cams - visible in the attached photo. While I haven’t seen a 96 engine in person it’s reasonable to assume that those actuators wouldn’t be there since it doesn’t have variable cam timing.
