You must be wondering why the 1996 Q45 does not have the VVT solinoids right?

There is also a differn't ABS pump from the 1990-1993 Q45's.

But here is a pic of the engine bay: http://www.freeimagehosting.ne...6.jpg

There is also OBD 2 which has 2 sensors for everthing.

Thats off the top of my head.

paul - i know vtc was eliminated due to nissans inability to meet the requirement to be able to detect exact cam phasing for the vtc.I was more curious to know if the harness even had spots in it for the vtc solenoids or if it was missing completely from it.I know the 96 engine has blanking plates for the vtc solenoids and i woudl assume that it would be just a simple matter of adding in solenoids, running wiring and makeing a jumperharness to run an older ecu to gain vtc back.

yes and no....the 96Q motor used different lift/duration cams to make up for the lack of VVT- not sure what the results would be if you could add VVT to these specific grind camshafts? Certainly would be different from the 90-95.

That indeed is a great question.

But pages EL-388 and EL-389 say that there still are plugs for the VTC solenoids, Bu I have seen some mistakes in FSM's.

But like Qship said if the cam's are different it will make it harder, In my opinion I would like to have 1990 VH45DE heads on the 1994-1996 VH45DE engine.

Paul beat me by a few minutes here but since I already took the time comparing the 2 FSM's I'll post what I found and repeat what's been said.

In the 94 FSM, pages EL252-253 the VTC solenoid connectors are labeled as C21 and C23.

In the 96 FSM, pages EL388-389 the VTC solenoid connectors are labeled as F21 and F23.

Now you need someone to remove their trim piece to look for the unused connectors. If you're good with electrical and schematics the rest of your answers will be found in this section of the FSM.

ah you are right, it appears that there are also cam differences...at that point it would be worth it to just get a set of new cams if using a 96 engine and reinstalling the vtc.i am curious tho as to see how the vtc would affect the engine if reenabled using std cams...has anyone done so?

would anyone mind pulling a trim piece off to look for the solenoid connectors? its about 4-5 10mm head bolts...passenger head would be the easiest to take apart.

Later OBD II g50 in Japan had VTC. I didn't think it was dropped in the 1996 JDM either until Q45tech mentioned T-3 installed a 1996JDM takeout.

Even if the connectors were present on the 96q, what would control them?ECM on 96 is obd2 and not set up to control VVT, and 90-95 ecu is only obd1. lots of headaches to attempt to piece together for undetermined possible benefits?

jumper harness to the old 8bit ecu for tunability and vtc control.
