I have a 1996 Q45t with 199,900 miles. a few months ago the engine quit on the freeway so i coasted to the side. Would crank but not start. finally after 10 minutes it started and ran fine all the way home. later that week the same think happened and i had to tow the car home. the next morning the car started up just fine and made a short trip. Next day started and made it to store and almost back home but had to coast in to the drive way. Since then it has not started. I have replace the fuel pump and checked for spark and am getting both fuel and spark to cylinder. Thought it might be the EGR Valve or Camshaft position sensor. Is there a way to check if these are bad without replacing them? Any other ideas? Thanks

To me it sounds like a fuel pump issue. I know you have replaced it but just to check and make sure...

The next time this happens and the car doesn't start, but cranks...1. Ignition in off position.2. Turn the ignition to where the gauge cluster lights up (do not start the car)3. LISTEN very carefully as soon as you do step 2. You should hear a quiet vroooom that goes on for about 2-3 seconds. That quiet vroom means the fuel pump has provided fuel to the engine. If you don't hear that quiet vroom at all that means the no fuel has been provided to the engine.

You should first try this on a day you car will crank so you know what sound to look for.

This was my issue... Some days my car would start, sometimes it wouldn't. But always cranked.

Sounds exactly like FPCU failure caused by worn out previous fuel pump.

Be sure to read your trunk before you dive into it.

I picked up a used FPCU from a junk yard yesterday and popped it in. First crank she fired right up. Thanks for the advice. It's great to have my Q45 back.

I think you still may have to replace your fuel pump. I did that and the car quit 2 weeks after. Had to change out the pump.

What about cleaning the tank, Before subjecting the new fuel pump to the old dirt?
