I am new to this site and have been on here before to read about battery drain. I just signed up so I can use the site as eveyone else is. I have read some great info on here about battery drain. My battery is over 4 years old and is drawing about a half an amp with the car turned off. I have purchased a new battery but dontthink its a good idea to install it with the drain happening. Am I correct in going this route or should I throw the new battery in and see if i have the same amp draw. Any info will help. I dont have a meter but a friend does so I can start pulling uses if thats the route I need to go. Thanks..........................Mike

Welcome to NICO. I moved this to the Q45 forum.

The best way to do this like you said is to pull fuses one by one to help narrow down what circuit the draw is on, then go from there. IF you can tell us where it's coming from, we can probably help. The old Q's electrical systems are by and large pretty good, my guess is it's one of the control units somewhere...

BTW, it's spelled INFINITI

Slow down.....first of all,4 years of battery life is above average in a Q-I NEVER got over 3 from a OEM battery, and I have replaced many in this old boat.

Regarding amp draw in these cars, one has to be very careful how{and WHEN} you measure it,as there are many microprocessor driven features that continue to draw amps after the car is shut off for several minutes until they go into "sleep mode"......not to mention, just having the hood up draws amps due to the security system hood switch being activated.....very tricky to measure "true" amp draw while car is truly "at rest"- I suggest a battery pigtail hooked to a digital multimeter with cable run in a way that allows you to close the hood/lock the doors and wait 10 minutes for all microprocessors to enter sleep mode before attempting to measure an accurate reading.

I just had to replace the battery in my 92Q. It had a build date of 10/10 and only lasted 33 months. Six months a year of Sacramento heat probably caused it's early demise.

To the OP.....Just a wild guess but is the light on the driver door-mounted seat memory button flashing? It will drain an older battery overnight.

After fussing with it for a while I finally bought a new battery. Its been about 6 weeks and no issues. The old battery was a little over 3 years old. Thank you guys for the comments

My battery is dated 9/04. That is the first thing I replaced on my Q. Yeah yeah Hard to imagine but its true. I have it in a thermal battery case year round. Kept up with corrosion on the terminals and filled it with distilled water 3 times now. I have AAA so I have not worried about throwing a new one in there. They will bring me one when it dies
