First time this 1996 had to be towed to my house.
Issue thought to be battery by tow guy, engine turns not stir... but could be the security issue as the key might not recognize car and fuel pump does not seem to be working.
Key turns. Always will lock and unlock car and trunk.. With car locked the yellow security light will stop flashing but car will not start.
I will try the reprogramming instructions and replace battery.
Did nothing different upon exiting car so maybe just the battery which seems to be stuck.
Not bad for 20 years with no major problems but the usual leaks and replacement parts. Any thoughts. Thanks

Read many posts about this issue baCK TO 2005 and found one that worked to start the engine.
Put key in turn to ACC and jiggled/pushed the lock and unlock door buttons a few times. WAM Q was able to start. FOB is still not working, so will work on either reprogramming or new battery or both.

Check FCC numbers. One of mine may work.

Had a second incident and had the 1996 Q towed to local infiniti.
Service manager says his Tech is certified on the earliest Q's....
Turned out to be the fuel filter/relay/pump. (they say)... But of course the stealership went for the pump first, shipped from Boston to SF. ... Not the problem,.... so get new Control Unit shipped from Chicago. and the extras from some other citi overnighted on FedEX.
Now the Q seems that works.
Initial agreed to charge for parts and labor was $920.00. BUT With added Fuel Control Unit total went to $2555.00....
After a heated exchange with service manager that i was never notified of that new amount but only for about $1000.00, the kind stealership man decided to drop total to $1710.00.
Q45 is only worth $1700.00 if that here in san Francisco.... SO.... Had no choice since the towing was initially to them and all that wore me down. Husband has said "thats it" dump the car next problem.
FOB still does not operate no matter what suggestions I have tried.
Now only hope this will be "it" for awhile. So including recent new tires, brakes, radiator, hoses, plenum hoses, Knock Sensors, valve covers and now second pump, and the previous 5 thousand over the last 10 years, it is still a great car.

Yeah, there is no discount on parts or labor based on the age of any car.

Too bad he isn't handier with a wrench. All of those parts are available used, probably from members on this board.

If you feel inspired, read Tangaloras posts.

Ouch.
I understand when you are under the gun sometimes you do what you have to. Glad you were able to negotiate some down. Not defending your dealer, per se- but genuine nissan service parts have become insanely expensive.
Not what the hubby wants to hear, and maybe not even you, but another way to look at this is that you have now spent 7k over 11 years--less than $60 a month to drive a fine car with no car payment?
Just got back from afternoon driving my 94, and while it now gets out only 1 or 2x a week, it is still a joy to drive.

The Q is working great with all those repairs. Key fob still not working but that is minor. Just trying to predict what might happen next. Keeping all the fluids fresh just hope the trans holds out. Had a number of BG fluid replacements so keeping fingers crossed.
I knew the parts were going to be high but the labor at the dealer was way high. But dropping the price by the manager by$700.00 with my first question means they thought they had a sucker.... this car from now on goes to my regular guy in San Bruno even if it needs to be towed 25 miles to get it there.
Still love the car. But those hard to find parts are getting crazy.
