Going through my initial get familiar phase with a Q I purchased about a month ago. Only mechanical issue I've stumbled across is that the cruise control option does not work. Any info on this would help I know it can be anything from the steering wheel control switches to the actual C.C. part itself.

Also I read the guide here on replacing all the rubber components underneath/suspension , If someone could list those parts here it would be awesome.

Best synthetics to run in oil & trans. systems to run in this year model.

I'll use this thread instead of cluttering up the forum with multiple posts.
Thanks

I wouldnt "blindly" replace "all" rubber components without a technician inspecting the underside from bumper to bumper- considering you just bought the car,you never know what parts any/all previous owner{s} have already replaced 1x or even multiple times by now.

As far as "best" synthetics for engine/transmission,there are many great synthetic brands and everyone will have their preferences.I can tell you what I have used in my 96Q,and my own personal results-which are that I currently have 296,000 miles on my Q using Redline oil and D4 ATF for most of those miles, the only other brand ever used for both engine/trans was Mobil 1 and the transmission is still operating as new, same with the engine-neither has ever had ANY internal repairs, and engine still uses less than 1/2 qt of oil in 5,000 miles. One big thing to keep in mind from all the above is that my car has used only synthetics from day 1.......not so sure you can get the same results starting from a high mile vehicle, and therefor whether it is worth spending the extra $$ on synthetics on a high mileage car?

I have run most of the various sythetic brands, Mobile 1, Royal Purple, and lots of Redline. I changed 3 years ago to Amsoil, I can buy it a little cheaper than Redline while other bash Amsoil for the way they sell their product, I believe they are the best.

As for changing over, it is like stopping smoking, you can always gain benefit by switching. Really depends on if your leaking any oil (leaking seals). I burn zero in a year (that could change in time as I only have 97k on my 97').

As for rubber, you never know what has been done, but any good mechanic can do a quick drill down and figure out what looks ugly. If you have no documented history on the fluid changes, just do it and get Redline or Amsoil (if you can find it locally). Mobile at worst, that is money well spent.

There was a forum called Infiniti Online Mechanic but I don't know where those posts have gone. Some of the earliest posts are in General Chat. Don't ask why.

Basically, search of all posts by Q45tech. That will lead you to the proper discussions and remarks. All of your answers are on here.

If your car has not been touched, good idea to start saving for rubber suspension parts. Most can't tell when their shocks are worn anyway because of the gradual diminution and never having driven on new.

So far I've done oil, radiator, transmission, brake & rear differential fluids also belts & pulleys. My mechanic said the suspension looks good.

That is lucky as the suspension parts seem to be getting in shorter supply day by day......keep the car like that and it will run strong for a a long time. I took my 97' out this PM for dinner with a new set of workmates and gave a guy a ride home. He thought my Q was "the new Q" that he'd read about. The fact that he'd read about Infiniti naming a new Q50 was impressive, the fact that my 97' (albeit lowered, M45 Sport rims) threw him for a new Q was funny. Of course when he got in he new my old school tape deck gave away the cars age.

Gotta say I've driven some high end vehicles and this handles right up there with the best. Yeah I plan on throwing some 3rd gen. wheels on it and have already had someone ask me what it was. My son's clamoring for a rear spoiler just have'nt seen one I think looks cohesive for it. Anybody know some good ones for this year Q post links.
