Take the torque off the center bolts - Take the torque off the front and rear bolts - Go back and forth until the the bolts are loose. When replacing them do the same. Snug the bolts up then use a torque wrench - starting in the middle - ends and back and forth. Torque them several times - start at a lower torque working your way up to max.torque spec. Just an opinion . Myself I would plug the oil return ports. Place rags around the head and use a brush and solvent to remove the sludge. You can use compressed air in between washing. Another opinion After the next oil change add just under a quart of Marvel Mystery oil. This product works excellent and has been around forever. Unless absolutely necessary I would leave the rails intact, good intensions often go bad.

27-30 footpounds if I'm reading the FSM right.

You are correct -27-30. Keep in mind you need to figure in wet or dry torque. Another method - take the bolt size dimensions - including the grade and go online and find a Metric bolt torque conversion chart. This will give you a wet & dry chart.
