1996 pathfinder wont turn over

anyone have some ideas before i go to the shop? yesterday drove the pathy to the store, came back out and wont turn over. all the lights work, dash, interior, guages etc, but nothing at all when you turn the key? gave her a little push, started right up and drove her home. shut it off, started right up with the key. tried again and would not crank over again?? never had this problem before. it has a security system with no key fobs, i just use the key in the door. i wonder if that has anything to do with it.alarm went off one day for no reason , had to disconnect battery, then reset the whole system to get it back to normal. one thing though-i was checking for loose connections at the starter and i touched something on the starter with my wrench and there was a spark and a motor sound or whirring noise like i activated something.

just went out this morning and after 2 no crank attempts, i tapped the starter with my hammer and the thing started-but seemed like not a whole lot of juice. i mean it didnt turn over with the usual speed and power, but still started. i guess starter is pooched??
