>>>I also posted this in the tech section, not sure which forum is best...<<<

Greetings, I just picked up this 96 Pathfinder with 126k miles and love it!! The only thing that does not work on this vehicle is the power locks. The FOB does not work (obviously) but nor does the switch on either the driver or passenger side doors, no power locks at all, no clicking sound, nothing - with the key in out, on etc. It just does not work.

I've tried looking for a fuse for the locks but cannot find one, there is not one labeled. Anyway, I've checked every fuse I could find (above hood release and under the hood near battery) - all are good. I do not have a wiring diagram unfortunately but have a Haynes on the way, though I do not know if that will be much help. Could this be a relay or is there another fuse that I am missing somewhere?

All other electronics work perfectly and there has been no aftermarket security installed - all appears stock. So, if anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it very much!!

TIA, ponga

That's actually really good news that all four door locks do not work, that means that your problem is centralized. Your problem is likely a fuse (I would just check every fuse and make sure none are missing) or maybe a relay or a bad switch pack in your driver door. Your best bet is to comb through the section on Power Locks in the factory service manual and test everything possible. I'm sure your problem is small and simple to fix.

Here's a link to the Electric System portion of the factory service manual for your vehicle: http://www.boredmder.com/FSM/N...L.pdf

your problem is probably the driver side door switch pack, maybe it was soaked and destroyed in the rain. its good that the other switch packs don't work because none of those will work unless the driver door switch pack is functioning.

What i'm saying is if all else fails buy another switch pack from the dealer and plug it in if the problem isn't solved return it

good luck

Thanks guys.

I've checked every fuse I could find - all are good and none are missing. Again, there is NOT a fuse labeled for the power locks... still I checked the fuse box near the battery under the hood and the fuse box on the driver side under dash. All are good.

I don't know which relay it would be - none are labeled for power locks. Now I am stating to think it's the switch pack, which I assume I have to remove the door panel to get to

Anyway, thanks Pwnin, I'll review the document link you sent me and see what I can't find out! Much appreciated and keep you posted...

Check the condition of your fusible link 40amp (#1 located under the hood, in the fuse/fusible link box)

I check the Nissan Assist and that's where the power supply starts, after that there is a circuit breaker

I have not completed my investigation, but initially it appears that the "smart entrance control unit" might be toast. I've verified that power is is fine and ground connections are fine, all fuses and breakers are fine and I've verified that the driver side door switch is fine, at least according to troubleshooting steps in the service manual, thanks to Pwnin.

I only have one last thing to test and that is to see if I can trigger the door locks myself by closing certain circuits with jumpers; hopefully I will have a chance to do that this weekend. If that works, then I'm out of ideas and everything would point to that "smart entrance control unit" being bad - which looks like it is going to be a pain in the a** to replace

Keep you guys posted and thanks!

Sure enough guys, it's the SECU (Smart Entrance Control Unit) that is the problem.

I looked briefly and they are running around $250 online, does anyone know where I can get one for cheaper??

If the price ain't right, I just might build a circuit myself; it won't have all the bells and (door ajar sensors, etc), but I am sure I can design a circuit that will at least unlock and lock the doors...

But if I can get a replacement unit for a respectable price, may as well.

Thanks for all your help,-ponga

I'm 100% sure you can find a used SECU at an auto recycler for really cheap.

1. Go to http://www.car-part.com2. Select your year and make/model from drop down boxes.3. For part, select Computer Box Not Engine.4. For Area, select USA under Countries (you can also select a more specific area like your state or even a city near you, I use USA simply because most likely you can get any of the auto recyclers to ship the item to you, enabling you to select the lowest price one).5. On the next screen, select Theft/Locking (select either with or without theft warning system depending on your original equipment)

The next screen will show you all of the parts available, there should be quite a bit. Some list SECU's pretty cheap. I would call and ensure that the one you want is actually the SECU and ask if the auto recycler has any sort of return policy if DOA.

Let me know if this works for you!

Thanks again Pwnin!

However, none of the part numbers found there match what I have.

Printed on the board is: 601-0730-201FFAll the part numbers listed come up as: 28595-0W010

So I'm scratching my head a bit.. I don't want to order the wrong part.

The number you're looking for may (or may not be) on the exterior casing of the SECU. I have checked and confirmed that 28595 is the correct part number for the SECU for your vehicle.

Go to the following page and look at the part number for the SECU for your vehicle year. You can see that it's 28595 for the SECU.
