1996 OBD-II Impact vs 1990-1995?

I've been told that it is more or less a myth that the 1996 300zx TT is unable to be upgraded as easily as the 90-95 models due to OBD-II.

Is this true? Does anyone else have any comment as to why supposedly the 96 has gotten a bad wrap about being difficult to upgrade and push to the limits? The only thing I know about is the lack of the VTC system, but how else does OBD-II interfere?

all models are about equal, the bod 2 non vtc models was down like 5 hp, and all the mods work except the ecu, but I'm pretty sure Z1 and CZP and everyone else sells a chip for the obd2 ecu, a quick visit to their sites will confirm

I guess the only bad thing I've read then is that when you get a state inspection, OBD-II cars can fail emissions for any number of systems failing, rather than manually hooking up a sensor to the tailpipe.

I don't know if people can get away with a EGR delete on a 1996.

On the 1996 OBD II computer you can't chip it at all. You have to get the ecu programmed for things like bigger injectors or dual intake. I've been battling this for a while since I've been wanting to TT my NA 96. You can put a 1990-1995 ecu in it but it wont pass emissions.

The only problem that i have had is my check engine light is always on. I always have the rear O2, heat sensor codes since i went to test pipes. I also get codes since i removed the stock boost silinoide to install a EBC. It does not bother me to have the light on and when i have a code reader that i use at the same time i check the oil.

i kinda wish i had OBDII because I could get all kindsa fun stuff like digital scanners and monitoring software if you've got a screen in the car.
