Hi I've recently purchased a 1996 Nissan silvia s14 F/L. I am very interested to know how the 'type R' version varies from a non type r? I know that it was factory manual turbo and that's about it. Does anyone have any ideas about this sub model?
Thanks!!

In all my years of being in the S chassis world, I never heard of a "Type R" Silvia... :inout:

...and yes I know what type R stands for.

That's probably a regular S14 with some kinda body kit on it. I hope I'm wrong, but that's just how it sounds to me.

How exactly do you "know" that? Just wondering, and I don't mean to sound mean or anything, but it sounds very much like you've been had to me.

How much did you pay for it?

It has stamped on the vin plate SR20DET. Original papers from Japan when it was imported say SR20DET so that's good enough evidence for me. I've spent a lot of time searching the net trying to find what this type R means but seems everyone is just as stumped as me. Haven't seen anything about type r s14!
I brought it for 9.5k NZD with 3000kms on a freshly rebuilt black top engine and the 5k+ receipts for the build to back it up. Body done 180kms. Not a bad deal in my opinion.
It has type R written on the registration tag and on 'car-jam' which shows all your vehicles details and history. Cheers for the interests. http://www.carjam.co.nz/car/?plate=Fuf272

...NIssan doesnt make a "type R" The only "R" they have (that I know of) is the 270R. Post pics of the "registration tag". Maybe we'll be able to help more.

also, why does that site only say SR20 and not SR20DET? NOw that Im looking at it, thats not even a 96 front end. This thread in getting me all kinds of F'ed up :gotme
