Car: 1996 Nissan 240 sx - not sure but I think it is a selene model 260 hp

Post

I am Patricks (the owner's) girlfriend. I am trying to help him out while he works overtime. We have a car that is a 1996 Nissan 240sx that is supposed to be rare - or at least we have heard that. It has 260 hp engine. 75k miles. His baby.

We were told by a mechanic it is a Selene (?) edition.

He is the second owner.

We have just dumped a lot of money into this car to get something repaired that they just aren't getting fixed.

When it is cold it bucks or lurches. I think it also makes some strange noises. When it gets warm everything is fine.

This has us very worried.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

We really appreciate any dialogue you could open up about it.

Also we would like to know if there was a small number of high performance cars made by Nissan, or if that is just over blown information.

Of course, we hope his is one of them.

Thank you

Murph's girl

By the way, this is the engine that came with the car. It was in it as opposed to the stock 155(???). At least that is what I was told. I'm not a car person.

The point is, we believe it is the original engine. Our mechanic said so.

Someone lied to you... sorry. Your mechanic is an idiot too..

The 240sx didn't come in a high performance edition. There was a "SE" version but nothing you'd call performance and it had the same HP: 155.

"Saleen" is a mustang tuner..not nissan.Have another mechanic check for codes. And have him check if the engine coolant temp sensor is reading correctly.

Wow i hope your BF didnt buy that as the... 'Saleen Edition'. Is that something that your mechanic pulled out of his a, or is that how you were sold the car..

Please give us a list of everything your mechanic has replaced so we know what to eliminate. Also, could you try to be more descriptive of the problem? Go into as much detail as you possibly can, it might help us figure out whats going on.

We need pictures of the cars engine bay to determine what type of engine you have. Stock or whatever that is a clear picture can give much more info.

Please take the car somewhere else. You are being lied to, and I have a sneaking suspicion that no actual repairs are being performed. I hate to see people that are ignorant about the workings of their cars being taken advantage of. Can you try and give more description of the problem?

Is the idle erratic when it is cold?Is the idle erratic when it is warm? What RPM does the lurching happen at?What throttle position does the lurching happen at?Does the exhaust smell strongly of gasoline when it is warm or cold? What kind of noises do you hear?Is it possible to localize where in the engine bay the sound is coming from?
