A few typical culprits:Dirty IACVBad/dirty MAFNo/weak spark (with new plugs, if no spark, check coils)

Check the FAQ sticky at the top of the thread for details on how to take care of the above issues.

Sorry. I forget not everyone is used to the abbreviations.

IACV is the idle air control valve. It's a vacuum hose that runs from the intake to a sensor. If it is plugged or restricted, the car won't run properly (or at all, depending on how bad the obstruction is). One of the 4th gen ('95-'99) owners will have to chime in to tell you where the sensor is located on your engine, though, as I can't recall off the top of my head.

MAF (or MAFS) is the Mass Air Flow sensor and is the black sensor on the intake plumbing. It senses air flow in the intake. If it is dirty or bad, it can cause the car to run poorly. Cleaning it is an option, but if you're not very careful, you can make things worse or damage one that's not actually bad.

And just in case you weren't already aware, your car doesn't have a distributor, but instead has individual ignition coils (one per spark plug). You can test to see if they're working by removing plugs (one at a time) and holding them next to the intake manifold or another grounded part of the car while the car is on (obviously turn the car off while replacing/removing each plug) and watching for spark. You can also tell if the plug or coil is the culprit as you remove them one by one, because removing a good plug will cause the engine to run badly. So if you remove any plug and the engine doesn't start running worse, you have a potential culprit. Just remember to be careful not to shock yourself while doing that--spark plug bites hurt, I can tell you.
