Ok, you all saw my earlier post, and got this from the service manager today-

"Mr. Richards, It is my pleasure to serve you and your vehicle needs. So far things are going very well. My technicians strongly recommend replacing the tensioner due to its age, this could also cause the belt to come off or brake. I will see how I can work that into my estimate and let you know by tomorrow."

Am I being taken here? The idler is 44-56 duckets, the whole assy is a tad bit more as you know....

TIA!

I got to agree with Yoda, the cost is reasonable.

They actually ate the cost of the tensioner-

"We all decided it would be best to install the new belt tensioner, this way we could guarantee the work 100% and avoid any near future issues. I was able to get the cost down on the repairs."

Still at the price they orginally quoted me!!!!

Yeah!!!

Excellent.

Also good news for me. About to go in for the 60K maintenance. I am sure the dealer will say for the age, it should be done, but i have to wonder since I have had the car since '97 and it has always been garaged. No more than I drive it, i would like to go at least to 75K.

Eitherway, it's good to know there is a lot of life left in my J30.

Well I picked it up tonight and was disappointed. The mechanic didn't clean off any of the covers, no label on the timing cover stating the belt was done, old parts weren't in the trunk as I asked and no one documented my maintenance log; I left it on the dashboard as a reminder. They topped off my fluids, the PS resevoir too full and the invoice doesn't state that the tstat or camshaft seals were done as we originally agreed. Going to have a chat with them tomorrow, got back into LV too late to catch the service department before they left. I expected that a luxury dealership would have done things a little more professional. But hey, got a free (I think) tensioner out of them.

I'll maintain from here on out, my Hyundal dealer uses Castrol and will provide oil changes. I'll try the Phoenix dealer I spoke with earlier for the next 60k timing belt. it's only an additional 1.5hr drive to Phoenix vs. Las Vegas.

Now, that darn window's giving me hell. I guess it's time to do the regulator. Motor is new...
