I have this code P1400 on the i30 , I unplugged the wire and test for volts at the pig tail , it has 12 volts , you can here the solenoid clicking when power is applied to the solenoid , after I reset the "check engine" light it takes 2 or 3 days for the "check engine" light to come back on , could it be an intermittent problem with the solenoid? maybe when the solenoid gets Hot it triggers the light? the car runs fine no problems , just that check engine light is on , should I replace the EGR solenoid? there is a separate code for the EGR valve itself so I do not think the EGR valve is bad or the tubes are plugged up (that would have been code P0400 right?) the 1400 code points to the solenoid so I assume it is electrical as it says "EGRC Solenoid Valve" thanks again for any info and thanks for the use of this site.

I also had code P0325 "Knock sensor" but that has come back on yet.

If the EGR valve is bad will the EGR valve solenoid get fooled and trigger the code for the solenoid? could the EGR valve be bad? how would that cause a P1400 solenoid code? thanks again.

I got these codes on my 95 Maxima ;PO325PO400

Tough thing to work on since you cant always run the engine to teststuff due to access problems, everything to get to is HOT

I dont think the knock sensor is bad. I do think the EGRproblem triggered it. Mine threw a code for the EGR valve but myvalve works and is only a yr. old as I replaced it.

For a maxima, the FSM shows how to test the EGRC Solenoid.

First you have to make sure you have power to the solenoid. Useyour multimeter and find 12 V on the male connector

Throttle body vacuum goes into the top of the solenoid. There are two openings out of the solenoid, one goes to thecharcoal canister and one goes to the EGR-BPT valve.

Basically, when the solenoid is powered, certain tubes are openor closed. When there is no power, certain tubes are open or closed.

It sounds like the solenoid is working since you said it clicks and theFSM says it should.

I tried the jumper wire thing and melted it

Does you EGR valve move when the motor is hot? Are you gettingvacuum to the valve through the hose connection? You should feehose vacuum. If you rev it up and put your hand on the diaphram you should feel it. Usegloves cause it hot. If you push up the diaphram the engine should begin to stall which is an indication the valve works. You can also use a Mytyvacvacuum pump to move it. If it wont move under vacuum the rubberdiaphram might have a hole in it or the valve is carboned up on theinside, or as you said, the passages taking exhaust from the exhaustmanifold to the valve are carboned up.

I have replaced the solenoid, EGR-BPT valve, EGR temp sensor, and thecode has not come back but my EGR valve still wont work. Going to tryto pass inspection here in TX without it working.

Please keep me posted

By the way, your valve is probably stuck in the closed position (like mine)and no EGR or exhaust is being directed to the upper intake manifold.

It will run fine in this position but may not pass inspection since NOxwill be higher on your exhaust reading

It gets power at the pigtail , I am guessing a stuck closed EGR valve as you mentioned , thanks for all your info.

OK I think I fixed it (thanks again for all your help) it was the EGR valve Solenoid , I installed a new one and so far 4 days and over 150 miles no "Check Engine" light came on , before it would come on pretty fast , the EGR valve holds vacuum and the wires all had power , so I guess when the solenoid got hot or heated up it would fail , so I hope that is it , no codes on the checker at least , thanks again.
