1996 Infiniti G20 A/T Trouble

Well basically here's my dilema.

The car is in park. I turn the key and start the engine. Put my foot on the brake and go to put it in D but it won't move at all. It won't shift out of park.

Here's what I have to do

Turn the car off. Put it in neutral. Turn the car on. Then i can shift it to R D 2 1 etc...

Basically when the car is in park and i turn it off it's as if the car is locked in park and won't shift out of it. Unless i turn it off and put it in neutral then start the car....

Any help plz

Also i'm interested in buying an OEM 1996 Shift Knob, interior color tan

Hello there and Welcome to Nico.

It sounds like you are in need of a shift mechanism. This is actually the control device the selector lever is attached to. You can either buy a new one and be done with it once and for all or you can gamble on a used one from another 12 yo car. Good Luck with the hunt I failed at finding any on either ebay or the online parts retailers.
