How do I remove the rear speakers in a 96 Infiniti i30? I cut the the plastic tabs off from inside the trunk, removed the third brake light, but I still can't remove the rear deck lid. I've tried to remove the speaker grills but they started to break apart. The speakers I have are blown, so I would like to replace them. Can anybody help me out?

Welcome to NICO!

I've never replaced speakers in a 4th gen but I'm 99% sure it's exactly the same as in the 3rd gen. I can confirm this for sure once I get home but I don't have the book with me right now to be sure.

The speaker grilles can't be removed without removing the parcel shelf trim. They come out with it. To get to that, you need to remove the rear seat. It's held in place by two different kinds of clips. The first is a set of simple slide-in retainer clips along the bottom of the rear window. The second is a set of clips that clip beneath the trim. You need to feel around beneath the trim to find them and lift up to snap them free. Try not to break them...the shelf will probably rattle if many are missing. If those are the ones you've cut, then you'll probably want to pick some more up.

To get the seat out, again it should be the same as in the 3rd gen (with the possible exception of the screws behind the arm rest, which should be self-explanatory). I detailed this with pictures at the beginning of my fuel pump replacement writeup here: zerothread/166050
