1996 I30 Instrument Cluster/Speedo

:help Does anyone know and can give me detailed instructions on how to remove the instrument cluster on a 1996 Infiniti I30... I have an intermitent cut out of the speedometer that is only fixed through a sharp tap to the dash or hitting a bump somtimes. I believe it to just be a connection but I need to get to the connectors of the Instrument cluster. How would I go about removing the cluster? Does the whole dash from the front of the car need to be removed? Thanks

no the whole dash doesnt need to come out. Your problem is most likely the cicuitry on the speedo circuit board. it probably has a cold solder joint or loose mount screw. to remove the cluster start by taking off the lower dash panel near your knees, then the coloum covers directly behind the steering wheel , then remove the bezel around the cluster and finally the screws holding the cluster into the dash.

Do you have any suggestions on the process of removing the lower dash panel. It appeared to be quite extensive, but I could be mistaken. Also, do you have any other suggestions as to a plan of attack on checking the connections on the speedometer or should I look into replacing the speedomenter?

I acutally looked up for that lower panel, it does not look difficult. Thanks for the help, is there anyting else you could think that could be doing it?

At the dealer we usually just replace the speedo for liability issues. but in many cases the screws that hold the speedo to the cluster will come loose [little phillips screws that come form the back of the cluster assembly directly behind the speedo. If you dont find any of those loose its likley one of the solider joints on the board. Dont know which one. As far as the lower panel its a couple screws at the bottom then it just pops off.
