Good day all, just bought a 1996 I30 with 216,000 miles as a temporary replacement for the next few months. I guess I am a newbie for now.

I like the car plus I got it for a good price. I have a few questions and I tried to search the forums and found some information about these problems.

1. The lower radiator support is rusted badly; by my readings it appears to be a normal problem with these cars. What's the worst that can happen if it breaks?

2. The CD player display, climate control, defroster and hazard buttons' lights do not work at night. All of them work fine but when you turn on the headlights, not of them illuminate. The display on the CD player will not illuminate but at random times it will work and then disappear again. Is there a connection between them or are the bulbs burned out?

Alright I think this is enough for now. Thanks in advance.

when i was in Maine i had a very badly rusted radiator support, this one day i was driving down a back road and hit a pot hole and i busted a big hole in the middle of the radiator support where the cross member bolts to it. I was able to still drive it to the body shop but the motor Vibs were pretty bad because that beam is where the motor mounts sit on. it cost me $1154 to fix everything that was wrong because my bumper was F up really bad and both my splash shields were ripped off the car.

For the problem with the illumination, check the fuses in the main junction box (driver side). The bulbs may also be busted and need replacement.

Thanks for your replies. I checked the fuses and all is good. The bulbs might be out and will need to be replaced.
What about the CD player? Is there a fix for it?

I might just keep it like that until I decide to either keep the car or sell it later on.

Here is a link to the CD player problem. The display problem is attributed to resistor R510, 470-ohm, 1/2 watt.

You have to pull out the CD/radio. Refer to the link below on how to remove it. You need the pry off the Air Vent (use screw driver covered with rag or duct tape) as well as the shifter cover.
