Ok guys, I am new to the forums and to the 300zx. I had a 1993 Nissan 240 that I sold to purchase the z last week. I drove the z for the second time last night. When I was backing out of the drive way I noticed the ABS light on the dash. It hasn't been on until that point. I also heard a loud buzzing noise from the rear hatch area. I immediately pulled back into the garage and took the hatch area apart to find the buzzing sound. It was the abs actuator humming. I could not get it to quit until I disconnected the negative battery terminal. I read a few threads on this forum about similar probs but none of them ever updated the thread with a fix. I went out today, connected the negative terminal and pulled the relay from the actuator and it has not started buzzing yet. I found a new relay and have ordered it but my question is why is the dash light still on. It was not on when I connected the battery this morning but it did come back on after about 1 1/2 hrs of driving without the relay in. Is the relay not the problem or will light go off once I install new Relay later this week. Is there a way to determine if the relay is def the prob before it arrives in the mail? The car runs great and is in really good shape. It has 134,000 original miles. Please help a new z enthusiast! I am the kind of guy that can't stand warning lights on my dash. Even the little red light that comes on everytime I touch the brake pedal! Lol

Was it a green relay near the rear tail lights? If so, that was your brake light relay, controls your brake light. If you have it unplugged, your lights are not illuminating when you hit the brakes. Has zero to do with ABS.

It is possible the ABS light could be on because either a sensor is going out, dirty, poor connection or loose causing it to think your in a braking situation.

Try disconnecting the electrical connector at the ABS pump and then reseating it. Sometimes the pressure switch gets stuck

I went ahead and replaced the relay and plugged all connectors back into the actuator and no probs yet. Dash ABS light is off and no humming from actuator!! I am leaning toward the relay being bad but the relay itself looked brand new!! It wasn't corroded or anything. Oh well. It's all good now.

Yeah, sometimes relays just get stuck and causes things to run when they shouldn't. Glad you fixed it
