We had some heavy rain and I inadvertently ran through a large enough puddle to put water up over the hood. I ended having to replace the alternator, but I am having trouble with the car staying running, at idle (cold or warm engine). My mechanic father, tried bumping up the idle speed but this didn't help. What could I have ruined with the water? I am looking to get rid of the car soon, so I don't want to drop lots of money into it.

The only mods I have are an AEM CAI, Hot Shot Header, and a CAT back high flow exhaust I got through BRM. Its an automatic if that matters.

it could just need to dry out if you havent given it a chance to do so yet. otherwise, especially with that CAI i would start with the MAF.

FWIW: you really are lucky you didn't hydro lock your engine, but the water may have damaged the MAF.

Yeah I am lucky I didn't hydro lock. If it was the MAF, wouldn't I see it effect the entire RPM range? This is only at "idle" like at stop lights and backing out of parking lots before I put it in drive.

Is there an easy way to check the MAF to verify if its good?
