Hey, I'm new to this site and I've got a few questions. I just got my '96 240SX for christmas and I'm trying to find something do to it. The three big questions here-

What is the best catback exhaust system (for this car) on the market now and where to buy? Looking for the best possible performance out of the exhaust system, without it being TOO loud.

Also would like to know the best cold air intake that will replace the stock air filter box and tubing.

One more here, and this is the big one.... What is the best performance chip on the market (that matches with my car)

Mind you all I am going to make this a straight car, not drifting. I have purchased a brand new set of 17' rims with 215/45 tires from DC Racing Rims.

I would appreciate all suggestions and/or pictures of modifications. Thanks alot guysCRyan

Congrats on the new car. These are just my opinions, but here it goes.

For a nice performance exhaust that isn't too obnoxious I would say:

RS-R ExMag or a system from BRM (http://www.brmusa.com) brought to us by our very own AZHitman.

For intakes, the Injen system and the one from AEM are pretty comparable. The Injen has the benefit that you can buy a part to change it to a true Cold Air Intake. Just watch out for those big puddles.

As far as chips for an NA application, the only thing I can think of is an ECU from Jim Wolf Technologies. SPL Parts, one of our sponsors, sells them. They aren't cheap, but they're pretty much the only game in town.

Personally, I'd start with the good old Intake/Header/Exhaust and go from there. Both Hotshot and DC Sports make a performance header for our cars.

Exhaust are almost all up to your preference, you'll probably have to research thoes on your own.

As for intakes, you can either get a name brand intake like Injen or AEM which is great for easy of installation and good fitment, but cost a premium. or you can get a generic Ebay brand and just replace the filter with a K&N or Perhaps Apexi' filter and still save money. but the problem with that is fitment will almost assuredly be off and you might have to replace the vacuum tubes. Both will work just as well, so its up to you.

You have plenty of options depending on what you are planning on doing to the car. If you are NA, than you want an exhaust with 2.5" piping for best gains. Most exhausts on the market have 3" piping, so you just have to wait for the right deal, shell out the right amount of money, or just make a custom exhaust. I've run a 3" exhaust and 2.5" exhaust, so I can speak from experience when I say the 2.5" is a MUCH better choice. BTW, my 2.5" exhaust is the Greddy Trust SP, and the 3" exhaust is the Apexi N1 single.

As for intake, I recommend Injen. You can get the short ram(which I have), or you can purchase the cold air extension as well to make it a true cold air intake. But as was mentioned, watch out for those large puddles of water, don't want to hydrolock.

You can also pickup some headers. Hotshot is regarded as the best header on the market for the KA, but there are cheaper alternatives that are also very good, such as the Megan Racing header.

Good luck modding your car, have fun, and be safe!

I believe Injen makes a bypass valve to theoretically prevent hydrolock, but I'm still not personally willing to take the chance with a CAI over a short ram for what seems like a minimal gain.

hey, thanks for all the great info, but keep it coming!! lol. I see that the Injen intake is the way to go as it seems, but still haven't got to much word on the chip. Remember, at this point, anything will help.

BTW- 2 more days for the wheels/rims!! Can't wait!

the car that is being talked about here is my car. CRyan is my step dad, just to let everyone know when i start posting, sounding like CRyan..just to let yall know. Also wanted to add that if anyone has pictures of a 95-98 picture of a 240SX with a rim that are 215 45 17...so, any pictures now would help..what would also be good if it had a inch lowered, but, i really don't care about that
