My car threw a check engine light and read it as a speed sensor error. I looked through the FSM but couldn't find a specific location as to where the sensor is at. I searched but didn't get any specific information. I jacked up the car and found what appeared to be three sensors on the passenger side. Two of the sensor leak gear oil when pulled out, and the last is all the way towards the top near the shifter mechanism. Am I correct in believing it is the last one? I found a diagram showing the speed sensor harness but not the exact location? The last sensor is on the tailshaft housing all the way towards the top. If needed, I can take a picture to help verify. I posted in the Online mechanic but that forum seems to move somewhat slow. Thanks

Speed sensor is on the tail shaft, near the bottom. When pulled, you will see the gear that drives it.

I was searching for VSS and heard it is near the back of the transmission at the 3 o'clock position? I have a picture of what it looks like now, pulled out. Will fluid leak out when it is pulled?

If you mean, while driving, the answer is yes. While sitting, only a small amount will leak. If you are going to swap it, pull it out, verify the same gear, and replace it. Not a big deal. I would not pull it out and leave it out though.
