just bought a 95 nissan sentra 1.6 with a 5 speed from a friend for 200 bucks. it ran great up until winter when it would no longer start. as far as i can tell it needs a coil but i could be wrong. i only get a dull orange spark. i can hear the fuel pump prime when the key it turned to on. filter is clean, and car wont start on starter fluid. i believe this engine has a timing chain so im dismissing a timing issue. let me know what you think

well i got a new coil and Cam PS last night, but it didn't make a difference. i noticed though that when i plugged and unplugged the Cam PS (CPS form now on) it would pep up a little, so i plugged and unplugged it very fas and the car slowly started. it runs great over id say 1500 rpm but if i let it go below it acts like its going to stall and its very dogie. the first couple times i tried to get it to idle it just died out about an hour later it would idle but when i pushed the clutch down to start it fell on its face. I'm going to pick up an ecu tonight, i believe its under the dash below the steering column but I'm not 100% on that. also just above idle if i play with the throttle i can hear a clicking like a relay some ware on the pulley side of the engine but i cant find it for the life of me. also as per suggestion of the guy at the junkyard i ran an extra ground wire to the engine block and to the firewall. any help would be great

ok, new maf, intake air temp sensor, TPS, IACV and still not a lot better. i can get it to start up about 50% of the time, and it will drive now, but has no power under ~3k. i had a new Crank position sensor but it was the wrong one, getting new tomorro. please comment

You might try taking the distributor cap and rotor button off and look to whether or not the signal ring for the cam position sensor is coated in oil. Those models, particularly, had problems with the distributor leaking internally. Hose it down with some brake clean and reassemble. If the car fires right up and runs alot better, you know what the problem is. Unfortunately I don't think you can rebuild those and a new OEM one from Nissan is around 500 dorrras. Good luck

ive replaced it twice (ring and sensor) the original only had very little oil on it. got a timeing gun yesterday and the timeing is like -15 -10, loosened the dist and advanced it all the way and now im at about 0, it runs better but still not like it should be. knock sensor was bad so i bypassed it with a 550kohm resistor, still no go.... also replaced vtc,. still looking for a ckps i cant find anybody that knows whats wrong with this dam thing. and ive asked a sh1tload of people

hit it with a timing gun and found it to be about -30 btdc... went looking around and i had put the silver disk that the cam ps uses to find cam angle on up side down. one of the 4 inner holes is bigger to denote tdc cyl 1 when its installed right the bigger one sould be at a 45* counter clock wise ange form the rotor so when the rotor points to cyl 1 on the cap, the big hole is in the sensor. when its fliped, the big hole ends up being 45* clockwise from the rotors direction. this causes the computer to to think cyl 4 is cyl 1. to prove this thought i gunned cyl 4 with it the disk upside down and sure enough 0 degrees. flipped it over and blam O tunz of power. next i adjusted the tps, metered the maf and cps. every thing checked out. ive got the dist all the way advanced and and im only getting about 12* btdc i also have a horible skip under 3 grand under load, like its missing a cyl.
