Hey Nico,
So I don't have my FSM with me here at work and I was curious about some of the routing for wiring in the electrical system for my 240 SX. I have been having an issue with my car since it returned from having some body and paint work last week. I'd like to trouble-shoot it before i return to the shop that did the work again.
Here is the information that I have:It seemed to start o.k. when I picked it up except the starter seemed to stay engaged for like half a second after I released the key from spring loaded start position. The next two sequential times it turned over very slowly for like 2 seconds and then started. The battery was replaced at the same time the body shop had it. It's an optima red top. While running the voltage at the battery reads apr. 13.5 volts, and when shut off it is goes to 12.8v.
This morning however I tried to start and the first couple times it turned over slowly for like 2-3seconds, then the third time after also trying to start with Jumper cables attached twice it turn over slowly again. When I removed and checked the battery cables and terminals it was necessary to clean the terminals a little and I verified that they were making good contact.
I'm curious and without closer inspection if perhaps the cables to the starter are coroded/bad? So the question is are there two cables that conect the stater power supply (not including the starter solenoid signal) to the battery (one that goes to the alternator output bolt and another one that goes direct to the battery) ?
If anyone knows about the number of battery cables and the routing to and from the stater and Alternator it would be helpful. I actually didn't drive that vehicle to work today since I was worried if I had that I'd be stuck trying to repair it in a parking lot, at least at home I've got tools and equipment to diagnose the cause and repair it. Plus I didn't want to be late for anything while I was trying to deal with it, I'll probably get to it later this evening or on the weekend.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions and for allowing me to inquire what your memory had stored on this vehicles wiring.
