Bad news, my Q bent a rod. The engine is toast.

I have a 95 Q45A with traction control and i need a replacement.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...%3AIT

Will this engine work?

Also when looking for an engine, does it matter if it came out of a car with active suspension and/or traction control?

Thanks,

Ahmed

Update i just spoke to T3 and they indicated that 96 DOES not have Variable valve timing. So it will not work. Please feel free to answer question #2 though.

The active and TCS are just add ons to the basic engine.........only thing that matters is a 94-95 engine and an experienced technican who knows how to R&R the engine while it's out and easy.Plugs, hoses, front rear main seals, knock sensors, etc.

Bent rod water or gasoline ?

not sure yet. i have a mechanic who is looking at the crankshaft and valvetrain components to determine the cause.

Also i am halfway reading through all of the posts on this website and i have yet to find a thorough explanation. What 'R&R' items should be replaced while the engine is out?

So far i have plugs, hoses, front rear main seals, knock sensors...

Anything else or is there somewhere i can find a complete list. Search results are too broad.

thanks.

Might try searching under take out in the body, both in current and archived.

Basically, any maintenance items that are expensive to get to later but cheap now. E.g., rear seals, turbine sensor, motor mounts, center transmission mount and exhaust hangar. Intake path cleaning is easier now. Most of all, all hoses including fuel lines.

Valve cover reseal, knock sensors and harness........$1000 in parts that might cost $1500-$2,500 in future labor to change with engine in car......over the future 50-100,000 miles.

Prepay to save in long run. Takes some faith to spend $5,000 on an engine swap. And another $3,000 on a transmission swap and $1000 on a diff swap and $3,000 to fix the usual other problems that crop up.

Buy a old car for $2,000 then spend $12,000 fixing it up plus another $1500 per year......sounds crazy doesn't it..........not if it last 5 years.......$21,500/5= $4300 per year......pretty cheap for a lux car plus gasoline tax and insurance.
