i RECENTLY BOUGHT A 1995 Q45 WITH 140,000 KM (ABOUT 90,000 MILES).

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT THE NORMAL PROBLEMS ARE WITH THIS VEHICLE WITH THIS AMOUNT OF MILEAGE?

IT SEEMS THEY REQUIRE ALOT OF MAINTENANCE AND i DON'T KNOW WHAT I GOT INTO. MAYBE I SHOULD SELL IT? WHAT PRICE SHOULD I ASK FOR (IN CANADIAN DOLLARS)?

ARE INJECTORS A PROBLEM IN 1995 MODELS?

WHEN DOES THE TRANSMISSION USUALLY GO?

Jon, welcome to our club!

Actually their are among the cheapeast V8 luxury sedans for maintenance you can find anywhere.

Keep in mind that comparable vehicles are MB S Class, Lexus LS400/430 and BMW 7 series.

Having said that, al ow mile vehicle such as yours, should give you litttle trouble assuming good maintanance habits by you and the previous owner.

Injectors in 94/95/96 are a lot better off, than in earlier years and even 90/93 only develop problems in states with reformulated EPA gas.

At 90,000 miles your transmission should last you many many years yet ,assuming it hasnt been abused by lack of fluid/filter changes.I suggest you do a preventaive maintenance program on your car.

We have a couple of threads listng complete preventative maintenance programs for new used cars.Execute a NICO search on that (red button on top right) or simply peruse our threads in Infiniti general.

i take it the Q must have looked good enough to buy it, right??? did you get it checked out by someone familiar with the Q? there are others on this site that can get more technical than i can, but if there are no obvious symptoms with the car, a total maintenance going over--brake, power steering, diff.,fluids is where you should probably start. do you have any maintenance records on the car, if dealer serviced can get those from them. in regards to the transmission, if everything seems fine, a transmission flush with a pan drop and screen replacement is a must for long life. go to the red search button at the top right and do searches for more in-depth info. with proper care, you own a car that has the potential for many more miles. the 95Q is considered one of most reliable years for the Q. you do have to consider that the Q is more expensive to maintain than a 4cyl. econobox but the tradeoff is great looks and great performance that not many cars out there can top. realize that you have a high performance car that does need attention to details. i hope you deceide to keep her, but if the care seems too much you will probably not be happy in the long run. go the first route!!!!! jeff;)

Hi Jon,

Welcome. You have what most consider the most desirable model year. Congratulations. 95's are not that plentiful here. Don't sell until you've educated yourself as to what you actually have bought. BTW, what part of Canada do you live in?

Thanks everyone for responding. What is the difference between a 1994 q and a 1995. I hear about timing chains but I think the problem was earlier than a 1994.

I had the opportunity to purchase a 1994 but went with 1995.

PS--I also notice rust around the wheel wells ..does anyone have this problem?

No diff between 94-95 that I know of. I think the 95 has a few minor tweaks but I've never been able to verify it.

Timing chain guides were no longer an issue by 94.

If it has rust around the wheelwells (where specifically?) then it has probably got FAR more rust elsewhere - That's scary, since the Q is VERY well-rustproofed!

Have you had it on a lift yet?

1994 Q45t have HICAS, 1995 Q45t do not; don't know about the PS ratios. There are other minor trim details.

Go for the one with no rust. Very expensive to repair correctly, and the Q has a superior galvanization process, so if it is rusting, it is really bad.

Jon,

I don't know about many folks having rusty wheelwells, BUT...I know from experience that quite a few of us have found rust in front of the rear wheelwells. It is inside the rear door opening at the back bottom corner. There is a body seam there somewhere that apparently was not perfectly sealed by the factory. It's only visible with the rear doors open and is not that costly to have properly repaired (unless it's very advanced). Where are you located?

Does HICAS improve the turning radius?

No as the rears only move minutely [less than 1/4" ] and above a certain forward speed to help kick the tail out and tuck it back in after the manuver.

Is difference in handling with HICAS noticable?

Having driven both HICAS and non HICAS Q's, I can say its only noticable when you look(feel?) for it and know what to look for.

It was Infiniti's intent that this be so.

Fred...:)

PS: It does seem, that this 94t has a noticably tighter turn radius, than all my previous non "t" Q's, but maybe thats just in my mind.

my rust is in front of the rear wheels like you indicated.

If anyone is from Canada (We live outside Toronto)...What is a used 1994 Q45 worth in Canadian dollars with 100,000 miles on it and in good shape?

My guess is about $12k Canadian (about 9k USD)
