My 1995 Q45 is getting quite bouncy in the front and especially the rear. It's getting to the point I can no longer ignore and it is a bit dangerous. After reading through the forum it seems there are very few options other than dealer Infiniti replacement struts that are very expensive costing more than the car is worth. Searching eBay and Amazon and parts sites I don't find much either. Are there no replacement struts or shock cartridges available and affordable to fix these cars anymore? Can struts from some other more common vehicle be fit without too much specialized modifications? The car is the base standard model without the active suspension. Most of the posts on this topic seem quite old so I apologize if I am beating a dead horse, but I'm really hoping someone has some good advice other than sell it. It is a good running and driving car other than this issue. Thanks in advance for any useful advice.

You can do what I did, buy tokico blue (HP) struts for the 90-93 and drill out the lower collar to 22 MM. The reason you have to do this is the bolt size is different from the 90-93 which is 20 MM. This can be accomplished at a machine shop or you can ream it out yourself. Make sure the shop/you understands what needs done as you do not want it to be to loose. I did this roughly 6 months ago and haven't had one issue with them. They are the perfect stiffness compared to the OEM shock which is made by tokico as well. The oem shocks are softer, as they are not made to account for suspension wear. This is the cheapest option by the way, you can get k sport coilovers or similar for about 1200$ for all 4 corners.

Keep looking for those Blues...they made plenty of them back in the day and show up every once in a while......best bet for OEM fit.

I believe Monroe makes some...

I'm showing Monroe 71536 for the front, 71537 for the rear. The rears will bolt on 100%, the fronts you'll have to drill out like GoadQ45T95 says (since those are actually made for a 90-93), but that's relatively no biggie.

I'm pretty sure the "active suspension conversion kits" that people have been getting for years used monroe struts and not the tokico blues. I saw a car that had a converted active suspension and I believe that one had monroe's on it.

Hey Wes! I was the one that emailed you a couple months back about the ECU I picked up 2nd hand. Good to see you still on the forums here and there.

The part number for the Tokico's will be HU2890. The rears will be HU2892

I actually have a set of K Sports for sell. They would fit your Q. I sold my 94 so I have no use for them anymore. I'll sell them dirt cheap if you're interested. Just PM me if you have questions.

Thanks,
Josh

Hello Folks:

My mechanic said I have a bad RT rear shock (not strut). The spring is fine but the air / gas ??? part is shot. LT is fine. I think the struts are ok. The back end acts like a Mexican Jumping Bean over any bumps. If anyone has good quality used or suggestions for new, any advice appreciated. My mechanic is a good guy, but my old 1995 Q (1/2 1994 parts) is likely the only one he ever sees. Looking for rear pair.
Thx
From New Orleans with love. Mardi Gras is just2 weeks away. :)

I have a set of brand new in the box Tociko HU2892 that will fit your car. I just want to get them out of the house ad I just sold my Q. I'll sell them to you for a 100 for the pair plus shipping. I paid 200.00.

Your offer is most appreciated. I will call my mechanic. But I think your part is the strut. I am told I need the shock. I posted into the strut discussion as there was some overlap for shocks in the discussion. In the meantime, I thank you and will have to wait to make sure I am buying the correct parts. I did call one of the parts folks that advertise on the website. I was told that part 5621068U27 (if copied correctly) is for the rear shocks. Just under $500.00 shipped to New Orleans for the pair. I do not know who the part maker is.

FWIW the rear suspension was replaced with used parts about a year ago. (My car was stolen and the under carriage took a beating before being recovered. I am left with a salvage title due to the low insurance value and I paid over the settlement for all the repair work. For those who do not know, a salvage title is a major pain and limits where you can move the car and in some states it would be more or less uninsurable. Has to be a better way to treat these old "family members". But where else am I going to get a beauty like this for "just a few bucks more"). The car has under 100K miles. It needs a bit of TLC paint, etc. Also some leather damage, but far better than average for age. Therefore, I am happy to fix it up.

:)

Youre welcome. I just want to point out that your Q45 uses struts, not shocks. They do the same thing its just that a strut is more of a structural part of the suspension. I just replaced a pair on a 1994 Q45. I'm sure your mechanic is a good one he's probably just useing the two terms interchangeably. Again, you're 1995 Q45 uses struts. It does not have shocks.

I second the drilling out the 90-93 Tokicos! They are working fine on one of my 96s. BTW, listed my 1994 on Craigslist Phila.

Email me your address to [email protected]. I'll send you the struts. Once you get them and you're satisfied send me a check for 100.00 plus the shipping. Sound fair?
