My daughter in far-off Dallas can't find the model no. on the non-functioning Sony CD changer in her 1995 Q45. If we can establish this, then a download of a user manual may help us solve the "Err" message issue. From the threads, it seems that many owners with this problem conclude that it's time to junk the Sony equipment. If that's indeed the outcome for us too, what's the best way to go?

If "Err" is her only issue so far, try unplugging the car's battery over night. If that doesn't work, I wouldn't be so quick to junk the whole thing.

Search for Jeff Williams and send him and email through his profile, he's probably spent the most time trouble shooting them.

Today my daughter asked the guys at JiffyLube to disconnect the battery at some stage during an engine oil and transmission fluid change, and to leave it disconnected for a while. She explained the CD changer issue and told them that she was hoping to create a "Re-Set". They said sure, but then came back to her and said they didn't have a ten-inch wrench, which is what they apparently reckoned they needed in order to disconnect the battery terminal. I have no idea what they might have been talking about, and nor did my daughter (bless her). Does anyone? As I'm about ten hours' flying time away from the Q45 in question, and as I have never seen under the hood of a Q45, there's not much advice I can offer my daughter.Any ideas?

they probobly said they needed a 10 millimeter wrench or socket to loosen the battery terminals-very easy if you have that size tool.

CD Changer is probably one of these two:

Sony P/N CDX-5N67, Nissan P/N B8182 C9974Sony P/N CDX-5N69, Nissan P/N B8182 C9979

Good luck finding ANYTHING from SONY (or about these changers). I've searched online for whatever I could find but alas, no luck. About the only things I've come across so far describe the same issues presented here. There does not seem to be any kind of replacement changer available to match the Bose head unit (as one sage put it, Bose is not in the business of making radios - Clarion is the actual manufacturer and Bose just makes the powered speakers connected to the unit). Sony's webpage points you to Crutchfield's page - and Crutchfield comes up with a big ZERO when you search for changers that are compatible (at least, with mine it did - I have a '94 Q45 which I'm sure isn't that much different in terms of the audio system).

I have two of these durned changers in my possession, and I can't seem to keep either of them working for very long before the CD ERR message shows up. Another issue I have had is that for some reason, when changing discs, the CD number changes, but it plays the same CD as the previous number, or it acts as if there is no CD in the slot when it just read it a moment before. Go figure! I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and buy a new head unit & changer eventually...

There's an adapter to allow you to use a newer model Nissan/Infiniti Bose In Dash CD.

Also, you can try http://www.carstereohelp.com they as well as a few other places offer a few rebuild for about $100, maybe a little more.

You should really think about scrapping it and here's why. I had the same thing happen to me. Sony will fix it for around $125-$150 and warrant it for I think 60 days. Mine crapped out again, within the 60 days and they fixed it again for free, including shipping. It died a third time but Sony wouldn't fix it again because it was out of the original 60 days. The warranty did not start again at the second crap out! If you plan on keeping the car save the repair bill and put it toward the purchase of a new unit.
