I have spotted a potential Q45 purchase and I have a couple of questions. It is a 95 with 92K. Seems to be in good condition with reasonably new Michelin tires and only a few door dings. The interior looks flawless. I have not yet driven it. Dealer is asking $8700.

The windshield has no Nissan markings, and says it was made in Finland. I assume that this means the windshield has been replaced, meaning the car has potentially been seriously damaged. Is this correct, or would a 95 Q45 have a Finnish windshield installed from the factory?

A 95 model year causes no concerns for the chain guide problems, correct? Any other mechanical issues to look for?

Three of four wheel center caps are scuffed and dull. How much do those cost to replace or can they just be be repainted?

I plan on driving it this afternoon after work. I doubt that this will be the one I buy, but a really tremendous deal might sway me. It is silver, which is probably my least favorite color in the Q. Thanks for your assistance!

The trick is to find out more [defects/wear] than even the person selling the car is aware of and using these to attempt to lower the final price." windshield has been replaced, meaning the car has potentially been seriously damaged" or just a rock chip or road hazard.Of the replacement non oem windshields Finland is the best quality, I've had 2. They last a few years [3-4] without pitting too badly............they cost less than $220.

Things are worn by 92k why else would the car be less than 20% [in inflated dollars of brand new].

As with any 100k car be sure you have $3,000 in ready reserve CASH in case the AT, AC fails or you decide to fix the brakes, shocks, other worn items.

you can always run a carfax report and also check with the Infiniti dealer database to see if the previous owner did all the required maintenance.

A well maintained Q is worth it's weight in gold.

Have the suspension parts extensively checked. Most of those will need replacement by 92k and this will knock down the price significantly.

Thanks for all the advice. I got out at lunch and drove it. Didn't feel real tight, so I started inspecting more closely. Both A-pillars had been painted, the hood was out of alignment, and the windshield had been replaced badly.

I also had the Infiniti dealer look up its service records. It had regular maintenance, but in March 2001 it had 90,000 miles. Now, in May 2003 it has 92,000. Something goofy there.

I'll probably pass.

Check out our B/S/T forum. A few great Q's in there and knowing they come from our forum show some serious care and maintenance.

Sounds like it had really bad front end damage which included replacement of the instrument panel and dash. That's why carfax and other reports are always good to run on used vehicles.

Good call.

Besides, there's a SPECTACULAR early Q (black) on B/S/T that's priced right and impeccably maintained.

I saw that Q in B/S/T, but SoCal is a long way from Hoosierland, and I'm honestly not interested in all the mods. That would go a long way for some people, but it's just not that big a deal to me.

I'm not in a big hurry, I wasn't really planning to buy anything until late June anyway, so I'll just keep my eyes open.

You're talking about the champagne one in Louisville? I saw that one, but I think I'd prefer a mid-90's with fewer miles.

The ideal car would be a 95 with 50K for under 12 grand. Red.

Owned by a little old lady. Whose son is an Infiniti master mechanic. Driven only on highways after a gentle warmup period.

OK, maybe that last part is asking too much. But I have plenty of time to be patient and find the right one.

Thanks for the tip, though!

Nah Bob, You'd want the 95 with 65K miles, that way the previous owner has to pay for the 60K service. . .

If it's had front end damage, I'd run away. . .

My Texas seller paid for the 60K at 52K, and even replaced the original tires with XGTVs.

I am very glad he had the hots for a Lexus SC430.
