I removed the top of my mass meter. Three questions: 1. What is the copper plate's function, if any? 2. Does this unit need to have an airtight seal to function properly. 3. I recently replaced my fuel pump, and sometimes within the first 30 min of driving on freeway, I will lose all torque, car will stall, and upon restart car runs fine. Also my fuel gauge seems to get stuck just after I have consumed 1/2 tank of gas, which means the swinging arm on the assembly is getting hung up somehow. Any ideas? thanks

Been there, done that. (1) The copper plate is a combo heat-sink and RF shield. You can bend it out of the way, but don't remove it. (2) The seal on the MAF is to keep water out -- not air. Reseal it with black RTV. (3) Check your fuel pump controller. A worn fuel pump will cause an overcurrent condition in the FPC, burn the connector pins and create cold solder joints. Do a search for more information. Good luck!

A lot of people damage the fuel level pickup arm when installing the new pump.
