95 Pathfinder297k miles

Yesterday I began getting a tiny belt squeak while driving home and about a mile from my house the temp. gauge began to climb steadily.

This morning I checked the coolant and it was very low. I refilled the radiator and took it for a test drive. After a few miles, the squeak returned and the alternator and brake lights began to turn on and off.

When I parked it, water was obviously pouring out of the fan shaft. As I tried to fill it, the water just drained straight out of the same opening.

I am due for a water pump / timing belt change anyway (last was almost exactly 100k ago), but I wanted to know if this is most likely ONLY the water pump.

There is no water in the oil and none leaking through the exhaust, and the vehicle has never run hot or overheated, so I am hoping to rule out any head or head gasket failure.

Any input is welcome.

definitely just a water pump. the bearings in it probably worn out ( which is actually normal). when the bearings wear out the shaft has too much freeplay and this will wear out the seal. just replace it and u should be good to go.

Thanks. I guess the 100k mark on water pumps is dead accurate.
