I am trying to replace the front left axel on my 95 Pathfinder. However I am not exactly sure how to do this. The shop wants to charge me $225 in labor so I would rather labor over it myself. I removed the manual hub, and I know that I have to get the axel nut off. However, I am not sure if I need to take the rotor off or not. Any information would help.

Thanks,

Eric

Find another shop. I got both front axles replaced and spent $500 Parts&Labor in Sunnyvale, CA (ritzy, expensive place).

Shops quote 2 hours of labor to replace both. Should take you about 4 then, assuming you have all the tools. If you search this forum, you can find the website to download the FSM.

I'd post it, but I'm at work and the net is being SAF.

It's not difficult. you just have to take apart the hub. the halfshafts have a retaining clip that holds it together with the hub. b efore you can get to that, you hafta remove the lower ball joints. the other end is held on with lugs and nuts...just like a tire. also here, at this link, click "tech" to find the full walkthrough http://webpages.charter.net/rockjaw/

Thanks for that link. The step by step instructions really helped out a lot. Also, some of the links on the website don't work including the manual hub dissasembly. Wasn't sure if that is your website or someone you know. But that is some great help and I hope that some of the other topics on there can be completed in the future as long with those links.

Thanks again,

Eric

You do NOT need to unbolt the lower balljoint, just the upper. And that's only if you can't slide the axle stub out of the knuckle.

Get a Chilton's book for starters. Then check here: http://npora.ipbhost.com//index.php?showtopic=255
