1995 nissantruck 4 cyl timming chain issue

Engine makes a loud rattling noise for about 10-20 secs. when started.From what I,m told this engine has a hydralic tensioner on timming chain,is this a common problem, is there a filter you can get with a check valve to keep oil up there? Thanks.

Nope there is no such device to do what you want it to do. There is a spring inside the tensioner already that maintains constant tension when the engine is off. The oil pressure compensates for that tension while the engine revs change.

The guides could be getting worn down and that contributes to the extra distance the tensioner must travel in order to take up the slack. The engine is over 12 years old now and it may need some TLC.
