I've searched the archieves without luck so need to ask for help.
One of my kids put brake fluid into the power steering system which promptly caused the system to start leaking...a lot! Therefore, I've set about replacing the entire power steering system.
I've got the rack out, but can't get the power steering pump removed. Have the adjuster assembly removed and the bolt that the pump swings on loosened. The swing bolt comes out throught the pulley, but hits the side of the engine compartment about an inch above the bottom of the metal. Consequently, the bolt will not come all the way out and I can't get the pump off.
Plan B was to try and remove the mounting bracket, but after removing a couple bolts I can't find any others and the bracket is still firmly attached. At this point the only thing I can think of is to remove the engine support and lower the engine to get the swing bolt removed, but that seems very extreme. I also considered dynamite or a cutting torch, but that seemed even more extreme. I'm hoping that someone our there has a simplier solution. Help!
