I have had trouble with the car missing for about a 1 1/2 months. Car has over 200,000 miles

Thought the injectors might just be dirty so running a lot of fuel injection cleaner in the tank

Checked for problems;
Plug and coil spark (coils are brand new)
Mass Airflow sensor
Evap system
EGR system
Idle Air control valve
Whether gas was bad
Fuel pump and regulator pressure/vacuum
(O2 sensors not even a yr old)

After doing the above and going to Nissan for a $115 dollar diagnoses at Courtesy, a
determination was made the #1 fuel injector was "dead". I had previously checked
them (all but the #5 closely) several times and all of them were clicking. As you know the plenum covers three of the injectors, including the #1, so I could not multimeter/ohm them.

When I got to the fuel injectors during the disassembly I couldn't turn the phillips head
screws on the retainers so I broke out my Bosch drill which had a good torque trigger and got them out.
Foolishly I thought this would be a breeze job after that. It took about 30 minutes to
just get the electrical connectors off since they hadn't been removed in 18 years. Used
a lot of electrical cleaner etc. After removing the metal retainer covers (and the associated insulators) I tried wiggling the fuel injectors to get them out----and they were stuck.
First I tried my hand--no way even with WD40
Then I moved to pliers--no way :gotme

So I had to remove the fuel rail and I put it in a vise-same as above they wouldnt come out

I finally shook it out but my hand was getting sore so I used a punch and hammer to get the
rest of them out !!:mike

Except for typical problems with the intake plenum the reinstall went well. I put 3 in under
the plenum cause I really dont want to go back there! :bs:

I ohmed out the #1 fuel injector at about 39 ohms which is way out. Not looking at the
manual but I think 11-12 was normal. Also made sure I had 12 volts with the key on to
the injectors. The others seemed normal on the multimeter.

On reassembly a friend suggested I start the fuel pump (by turning on the pump not the
engine) to check for gas leaks first. :ohno:

It is running well today. The dealership would have charged $400 labor to change one injector
but for the same money I changed three.

Well done, 'nutria.' Two of my cars are over 15 years old but they are still running good. It's surprising but I've had less problems with the 97 I30 than the 99 I30.
