Hey everyone, Whats Up? I'm about to also upgrade all my speakers in my truck also!! I just purchased my 6 1/2 Pioneer Door & Rear Speakers 4 Way's!! Im worried about pulling my door panels off to get at the speakers to change to my new one's!! The clips are known for breaking sometimes. Does anyone know the best way to pop the panel and without taking the panel off to put my door speakers in? Can i just pop the bottom of the panel off where i have enough room to install the speaker & wire it up. Is there any special tool to use or can I just use like a flat putty knife or something to pop the clips?? Anyone that knows & have done the door speakers on their own before hit me up. Thanks Dadrummer77!!

An interior door panel removal tool which looks like a bent and split screwdriver should do the trick. Just go slow and careful because the clips are plastic and the door panel is particle board. I find that the door panel itself gets damaged before the clips ever do.

Yes or even harbor freight cheap one ill do. the first thing is the ring around the door handle has to come off along with the screws on door pull arm rest thing. Then slowly be sure the split tongue on tool is centered on the plastic pop rivet things and pry them back. The remove door lock slides and ease up and it pops out(roll window down to make it easier). Once you do one they are easy to pop off. Slow and easy and you will be fine. If you do crack the particle board you can use some elmers wood glue and a thin slice of plastic or similar material to put over the crack and it should be fine. Just make sure tool is on the pop rivet plastic piece and with one hand pry with other pull lightly to make sure panel is coming out with the plastic snap clip thing, not sure what they are called LOL

One note the ring that is around door handle release pops on, be careful the plastic can break but it does just pop on and off. Also the window cranks have c clips to pop off to remove handles. it is pretty straight forward, the ring the clips on window cranks the 2 screws in arm rest and lock buttons just unscrew, then it is pop all the plastic pieces around the edge of panel.

When I did mine, I didn't remove the panel at all. If you are not running new wire to the speaker, and going back with the same size, you probably don't need to remove it. This will vary I suppose, depending on the size and design of the speaker's mounting bracket.

That link should give you the info needed to remove the panel with the least amount of damage.

I installed new speakers and removed the door panels. The old plastic inserts were so brittle that 50% of them broke. I just ordered a box of them on line. No big deal.
