Sounds like a failing IACV (Idle Air Control Valve). Or possibly even a bad MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor.

How do the plugs look? What brand, and are they black (rich)? Can you save the idle by giving it a little gas? Are there any other symptoms? Does it drive normally, other than that issue?

Mike- what is the maintenance history of the car?

the knock sensor is clearly visible in the last picture.

i'm in cocoa beach for a few days if you wanna bring it by for a quick look over.

also, what did the inside of your distibuter cap look like when you pulled it? did you pull the rotor, 'weather seal donut' and look for oil tracking?

these are famous for leaking distributors that wreak havoc with idle.

sorry guys ive been working alot so havent got a chance to get on here or work on the car untill today . so far ive replace the KS and the coolant sensor. still no luck.

GQ - the car would not make it down to cocoa , but thanks.

as far as maint. goes i just bought the car so i dont know the history.

ill look at the dist. here in a sec. and check that seal.

the car still dies out and idle is reving up trying to save its self. it seems to do it hot and cold.

See if it straightens out by pulling the connecter off of the mass air flow sensor (MAFS).

Stop the engine, unplug the sensor and restart it. See what it does then. The computer will go into a limp mode, causing it to not go above 2500rpm. But if it idles smoothly, then you're dealing with either a bad MAFS or a dirty MAFS.

Still look under the cap of the distributor for oil. But typically, that would cause a non-running issue vs. a hunting idle.

Either a failing IACV or something else I would think would cause this issue.
