(Pre-S) Should I paint it and add another $1000 to the price? :3

Synopsis:Reliable, well maintained daily driver vehicle for student or everyday worker.

Pre-description:For the prescript, this vehicle has been previously posted, but not with pictures, and the circumstances surrounding the vehicle have changed in an exponential manner.

Until reasons I will divulge later in this post, I will say for the moment that I had no plans of selling this car until I was out of college and off to an excellent career and could afford to buy something nice... like a brand new Beamer or something to that effect.Having said that, I have taken very good care of this car, and done all of the maintenance myself pretty much since I was shafted by a shop, who put a faulty transmission in my car. (I decided it was better to spend the money on my own tools rather than getting bent over tables whenever problems arose).

There is a laundry list of items that have been repaired/replaced over the last couple of years.

Mechanical:Alternator (18 months old) [New]Battery (6 months old) [New]Radiator (12 months old) [New]A/C Lines & Accumulator (12 months old) [New]--A/C Serviced and up to specs by HVAC TechnicianSpark Plug Wires (2 Months old) [New]--Borg WarnerSpark Plugs (2 Months old) [New]--Bosch Platinum +4Engine Mounts, Lower and Passenger sides (24 Months old) [New]Water Pump (12 Months old) [New]Belts (12 Months old) [New]Radiator Hoses (36 Months old)CV Axles (Drivers side 1 day old) [New] (Passenger side 12 Months old) [New]Upper Tie Rod ends (3 Months old) [New]Lower Ball Joints (Drivers side 1 day old*) [New] (Passenger side 3 Months old) [New]Swaybar Inlinks (Drivers side 1 day old*) [New] (Passenger side 6 Months old)Transmission (Rebuilt 36 Months ago, 30,000 miles accumulated since)Master Cylinder (48 Months old) [New]Rack & Pinion (24 Months old) [New]Fuel Pump (4 Months old) [New]Struts/Shocks (48 Months old) [New]Lower Control Arms (Passenger side 24 Months old) [New] (Drivers side 1 day old*) [Salvage]Front Disc Brake Pads (12 Months old) [New]Rear Drum Brakes (Due for service, 4 years/50,000miles+ wear)

(Factory Recall)Painted poorly. My fault. Practice for my 1972 Cutlass that I'm slowly working on. Haven't had a chance, nor a place to re-re-paint since my move to Wichita. Education is fun!Insulated Interior

Maintenance:(Some mileage values are approximated closely)Oil change every 3,000 miles. Due to high mileage engine, I use 2.8 quarts of Castrol 10w-40 and 1 quart of Lucas with every oil change, with a Wix filter.

Air Filter changed every 12,000 miles, air intake says K&N, no longer true. My Infiniti J30 uses the exact same model of filter, so I moved it over. Currently using a Microgard filter, no more than 5 miles on it at this point in time.

Belts changed every 60,000 miles or when necessary.

Brake pads changed when brakes reach 80%-90% use.

Transmission maintained with Lucas Gear Oil.

Coolant system flushed every 50,000 miles.

Fuel Filter changed every 15,000 miles, Wix brand only.

Spark Plugs changed every 30,000 miles, or when necessary.

Lucas Injector Cleaner run every oil change through fuel tank.

02 Sensors replaced when necessary, currently due. I even have them here to do it, just haven't done it yet.

Economy:Have achieved 42mpg @ 60mph. Beyond that, average has been 20-24 in town, and 28-34 highway.

History & other stuff:This Nissan Altima has 225,000 and some change for mileage on it. Original engine, rebuilt transmission out of a 1997 Nissan Altima with 30,000 miles on the rebuild. Engine was rebuilt from the head up at 180,000 miles.

For all intents and purposes, this vehicle is a new old car. As I said earlier in this post, I had no intention of selling this vehicle until I was out of college and had something explicitly better to drive.

Due to circumstances of the last ice storm in Wichita, February 22nd, 2008, I lost, regained, and then lost again the control of my vehicle by valiantly dodging someone else's car by mere inches. Notice my keen use of power words. In this particular instance however, they fit well. My driver's side wheel hit a recessed storm drain curb perpindicular to the corner.

I had it towed to Kammerer Body Shop in Wichita, whom I don't recommend you ever send a vehicle to as their customer service, and their honesty is a far, far stretch from what it should be.

Kammerer told me that my car had suffered damage to the frame, and engine cradle, as well as the sway bar inlink, steering knuckle, lower control arm, the wheel itself, and the body damage caused by the tow truck. Being told that there was damage to the frame and engine cradle, I accepted my poor baby as a lost cause, and allowed State Farm to go ahead and total it out. I bought it back simply because of all of the time and money I have put into it recently and over the last few years (such as $400 of due maintenance the week before I hit the curb, lol). I was planning on parting the car out on ebay (and could probably make more money doing just that, to be totally forthright.)

Once I had it at my house, I got a good look at it with a clear head and something was not right. I drove up to Kammerer with my "new" 1996 Infiniti J30 that I bought partially with the settlement and asked for the "Official Assessment" on my Altima (Available to anyone who wants to see).

It stated:Replace Front Bumper coverRework Driver's side front fenderReplace Lower Control arm Driver's sideReplace Steering knuckle Driver's sideRestraighten Rim Driver's sideReplace Sway-bar Inlink Driver's sideReplace CV-Axle or Boot Driver's sideRepaint blah blah blahIn other words, nothing about the frame nor engine cradle which led me to file the insurance claim to total it out to begin with. I actually fixed the damage to the car, myself, for less than $200 with an alignment happening in the next couple of days. I did so in the matter of one and a half hours. Conclusion? I received the proverbial pole.

Message of the Millenium: Lying Mechanics expletives deleted.

So, if it wasn't for the fact that I like my new car better (V6 3.0L Leather superpowerinterior baby!), and that I didn't have a car loan to pay off now, I wouldn't sell it at all.

As it is, I've poured hours upon hours of work and blood and sweat and toil into this car; not all out of necessity, but for learning and making it better in the process. The interior alone took a good week to do, and I don't even want to discuss what THAT cost me. (The second time, at least...learning curve.)

For the prospective buyer, I've laid out every conceivable bit of data you would need for this particular vehicle that I can think of. Carfax WILL show this vehicle as "Totaled" because of the previously stated reasons. However, this is not registered in Kansas and thus a salvage title is not required (gotta love out-of-state red tape, or lack thereof).

As I had said earlier, I was planning on parting this baby out on Ebay, and I could even make up to 3x the money on it if I were to work it right (starting with a quick $1000-$1400 for the transmission alone), but I don't like the idea of all of my labors going to waste. So I'm selling it for significantly less than I could possibly get out of it on that very basis. My work.

I'd like for someone to buy it, take care of it like I have, enjoy the added asthetics, and I plead for that prospective buyer not to run into a brick wall at 4,000 miles per hour. As the pictures say, it has a J58-P4 under the hood. Yup. Seriously.
