1995 Nissan 240sx starting problem

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 240sx. When I try to start the car the interior lights and fan turn on, but once the key is fully turned all I get is a fast clicking sound which sounds like the starter. The car will start with a boost, but once it is shut off it won't start on its own. This happened a few weeks ago, and then it started working again, but now its acting up again.So far I'm assuming its the starter, but I was wondering if it may be instead a wire grounding problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have the battery tested. If that's good, have the starter tested. Follow the basics first.
