Hi, Im a proud owner of my 1995 Maxima GLE. Recently I have just replaced the front brakes and rotors. Now after a short 200 mile trip to see family, I am smelling antifreeze leaking and some gas. My boyfriend seems to think I have a crack in my radiator. How easy is this to repair?

I have found a couple of them online for about 100 bucks! I do have the Chilton book for those "do-it-yourself'-ers! I just want to know if it would be easier to replace it ourselves or bring it to a repair shop?

Also how can I troubleshoot for other problems while we are doing this also? He thinks it can go for a little while, but the temp gauge is about halfway to hot!

I work nights as a nurse and dont really have the time and trying to save money....gas is eating me alive! Please give me lots of input! LOVE YALL!

Welcome to NICO!

Radiator replacement's not a big deal. I'd definitely try replacing it yourself. Read through the Chilton guide to get an idea if you're not sure about it, but really it just involves removing the fans, shroud, and other plastic stuff, draining the coolant, removing the lines, and pulling the radiator out.

If you want more detail on the process, you can find the Factory Service Manual for the car here. Radiator removal is covered on page 14 of the "LC" section.

I was talking to him on the trip about driving to DFW area (about 6 hr drive) and he said he didnt think my car was reliable b/c of the 150k plus miles!

With the car running look and see where the leak is comming from. It could be the water pump or from a hose. Replacing the radiator is a easy job. Drain rad and unhook all hoses including transmission hoses. I put a new one on a 280ZX and it wasn't hard. I would buy a new one instead of a old one. No telling what shape a old one is in. I went to my local mechanic and he got me one at his cost, about 100 dollars off of retail. Total cost about 225.00

You really need to find that gas leak. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS!

As far as the gas leak is concerned, my 1995 needed a fuel filterwhen I smelled gas.

You can pull fuse #32 to stop the electric fuel pump. Then youcan change the fuel filter.

I am not saying the leak is from the fuel filter but this might help.
