Does anyone have valve clatter in the morning or an occasionalknock when the engine is cold?

I've never done it.
Are you using 10w-30?It could be oil pressure is weak at start up.

My '95 does that too. Feels like it is starting very rough. The mechanic said to me there was nothing to do, and that it will just return to normal after travel. Are u saying i need different oil to fix it?

Yes it looks like the starting point is to change to 5W-30W or an oil whichmoves quickly in the engine when cold
