I looked in my owners manual and Nissan says its okto wax my car even though it has a clear coat paint job.I thought you couldnt wax clear coat

Any suggestions to wax or not wax?

If you wax, what type is best?

Zymol is good. My favorite right now is Meguires NXT, it is real nice, especially on dark colored cars. And as far as waxing clear coat, of course it is ok, all cars I can think of come with clear coat over the paint. How bad is it looking now? You might want to do a paint cleaner before you wax, if you think it could use it. If you wet the panels and gently rub your hand over the surface and feel little rough spots from stuff accumulating, the clay bar system from Meguires works well. Do it in stages with a cold wash/rinse in between each one.

That is crap. I used to run 5 coats most all times on my previous truck and I never had one problem. People always say this -- but I really think it is crap and do not even understand how it is possible.

That said -- Zaino is the best wax I have ever used.

Yes you need to wax it.

Since you have never waxed it, I would start by going over the entire car with clay bar. Follow that with a polish, then a wax.

I personally use Meguiars products. But as was said above, Zaino is a very good product.

Then there was something wrong with the paint, not the wax. On my I30 I like to use Meguiar's NXT wax. If I feel like going all out I'll use products from a company called Zaino...a bit more involved and time consuming, but incredible results.

Zaino used here too! Easiest stuff to use that I've tried.

Have you found a way to incorporate Zaino into your dental practice yet?

Thinking instead of prophy paste when u get ur teeth cleaned. I'll use zaino in those little cups. Put about 3 coats on and you will have protection until next visit.

The walmart would be the cheaper place to buy the waxes.1. Wash with NXT car wash (The most important phase)2. Clay bar with spary wax. 3. Apply Meguires NXT wax.4. Apply Meguires Gold class wax.

I used to follow the steps. It took about 2 hours at once a month.

You can get all kinds of Meguiars products at Autozone. I have sworn Meguiars to my last 3 vehicles, and they've been flawless. They're cheap in price, but very high in quality. I've used their 3 step Deep Crystal on my last neglected car, and it turned out beautiful. I've used all but their NXT line so far. The Deep Crystal seems to yields a nice luster, and has a pretty decent lifespan. However, Gold Class will produce a far richer shine, but as it seems, at the cost of a lesser lifespan.

I'm pretty nutty when it comes to detailing, so I have no problems when it comes time to reapply products. With that said, I'd say to use Meguiars before you'd like to try Zaino. That stuff is pretty pricey for an everyday driven car.

Zaino is hard to find. You will have to google it and see if anyone sells it locally and if not then find it online. Zaino is very nice because you can actually apply layers to the clearcoat. Its really nice. I first washed the car with regualar dawn soap and then clay bar the heck out of it. Then i zainoed the car with the hardner (small blue vile) so i could apply 3 coats a day. I actually got trained how to use zaino and if u use it correctly you dont use too much of it and the bottle will last for a long time. Its some awesome stuff. I can vouch for it and so can maxhopper

I would suggest to start off with a detail washing using a clay bar and waxing using Meguiars Cleaners Wax. After going thru that bottle. Start waxing with Meguiars Gold Class Liquid wax. I used this process on my 1996 Nissan 200SX that was 6 years old when I bought it and the result was astonishing!!!! I received alot of compliments on how clean my car was. I highly recommend Meguiars Products the products are good for restoring paint....

Careful using too much cleaner wax. You aren't supposed to use it very often.

Don't use dishsoap. It's going to damage your paint in the long run.

If you are going to clay bar the car, then you need to strip all the old wax off before claying.

Maxhopper hit the nail on this. If you start over, use dawn. Strips all wax off. I have never had a problem with it and i've used it a few times on 5 different nissans.

I have never used a clay bar

Are you just rubbing it on the paint?

Yes, just use soapy water and rub every inch of the paint. When the clay gets dirty, fold it in to itself and continue.
