ok i have searched and read and I am more confused than ever. I purchased a consult obd1 connector for my 95 befor i found out it also has a obd2 connector. I am attempting to read my ecu through the obd1 connection to my laptop running vista. I loaded the conzult trial program that came with the adapter and it works.(limitedly) i can see trouble codes and turn cooling fan on and off. when i attempt to use any other program (free)such as nissan data scan 1.52 or any of the other free downloaded programs i can not connect my lap top to my ecu any suggestions on setting or programs that work would be great. Oh yeah i also purchased the rs232 to usb adaptor and it seems to work with the conzult free trial.

bought it from biz-it asol purchased a Cablemax CA2322A rs232-usb adapter came with a demo conzult that works but none of the free softwear seems to work.

Features: - Interface fitting for 14pin diagnostic port of Nissan vehicles. - Heavy & robust casing for rough service use - Connects to PC via RS232 - Powered from car battery over 14pin diagnostic port of Nissan vehicles. - LED to control power and clock function

Model Coverage:This interface works on all Nissan cars that have the grey 14pin Consult connector (you'll usually find it near the fusebox) (This cars are usually build from year 1989 to 2000)

I have that consult cable and have tried two serial adapters but both dont work at all with any software including conzult. I also have vista. I ordered another type of consult cable and hope it works. My car is stock 91 240sx.

well many hours later and i have "ECU Talk" partially working it loks up only a few minutes into any testing as dose datascan 1.52 and conzult but i did clear my codes and check my o2 sensor. which is probably my problem. reads 0.0 volt upon decelleration. .4 - .6 under throttle.

sounds like either the consult cable thing is flaky, or the usb/serial converter is. FTDI based usb/serial is highly recommended (its the chip thats used in all available USB consult cables)

ur O2 sensor looks fine. 0v = when your car is cutting fuel on decel. higher voltage is car running richer on accel. and it should go back and forth from 0v to 1v while cruising constant load light throttle.

any update on your new cable.... i bought one from ebay, installed drivers on cd, adjusted com ports, got a bunch of free programs, and none of them detect my ecu....any insight on this prob? (93 ka24de obd1) -- could it be a bad cable/ incorrect driver, operating system -tried both vista and xp, ecu wiring... also neone know how to test the obd connector to see if its sending a signal to my laptop? thanks and sorry for so many questions in a single post

If you purchased the eMance product, it SUCKS! I bought this POS cable, got all the software, and like you, it couldn't find the ECU. I spoke with Jason and he sent me another adaptor, but that didn't work either (oh yea, I chose the com cable and NOT the USB cable). I asked him about the pins he uses (they're round and the consult port requires flat pins) and he has never addressed it. Going to try to send back. If he doesn't give me my money back, they will be up for sale and really cheap! Plus he won't get the second unit back either. Time will tell if he stands behind his product or not. I'll give him a week.

So in the mean time, I went ahead and purchased the BlazT consult cable and the Nissan Datascan software and it worked out of the box!! What a cool program.. Now to learn what it all means..

Just my two cents. I won't bash a product unless I have tried it myself.

jason is a sketchy guy. his cables are a do it yourself project. ecutalk is probably the best value for money. blatz is good but the most expensive.

Thanks Az.... but i didn't get the one from emance... looked kinda crappy, and i did notice the pins were round and not flat. i got a black one that looked really well built, but it hasn't worked for me... going to try and get a refund and get either a blazt / ecu-talk 1. I would of gotten ecutalks own but it was sold out when i was shopping... owell. Hope the next one works - need to find answers to my engine's problems.

ecutalk ones are back in stock now. serial ones were discontinued (dont think any new laptops have come with a serial port for like 4 years anyway?)

The BlazT can be purchased from http://www.blazt.biz. He is located in New Zealand. I ordered my product and received it in about a week.
